VIVOTEK IP8162P is part of
the SUPREME series product line offering 2-megapixel
resolution with superb image quality. The camera can capture
a much more comprehensive area than a standard VGA camera,
significantly reducing the number of cameras required. It is
especially suitable for monitoring wide open indoor spaces
such as building entrances, airports, or applications
requiring accurate identification.
The IP8162P employs many
advanced features to allow users to fully enjoy the high
definition video. With high performance
H.264/MPEG-4/MJPEG compression technology, the IP8162P
offers high-quality video with resolution up to
1080p full HD @ 30fps. With a
P-iris lens, which controls the iris with extreme
precision with its built-in stepping motor, it maintains the
iris opening at an optimal level at all times, resulting in
superior image clarity and depth of field as well as image
quality. In addition, the IP8162P is also equipped with a
focus assist button to allow users to precisely adjust
the camera focus. After pushing the
focus assist button on the camera unit, an indicator
will be displayed onscreen with detailed focus information,
which will change in accordance with the manual adjustment.
Moreover, continuing to push the button will zoom in on the
target area for fine tuning, resulting in better usability
and picture clarity. The IP8162P can also be directly
connected to an analog monitor with the built-in BNC
connector, providing integrators more flexibility and
hassle-free installation for a myriad of applications.
Together with
WDR enhancement, users can identify image details in
extremely bright as well as dark environments. Also
featuring other high-end features such as
multiple streams, video cropping,
ePTZ, SDHC card slot,
PoE, and the included 32-CH recording software, the
IP8162P is indisputably the top choice for reliable and high
performance megapixel surveillance.
What Is a
P-Iris Lens?
A
megapixel/HDTV camera uses a megapixel image sensor (an image sensor
with 1 million or more pixels), which generally has smaller pixels
than a standard resolution camera. A smaller pixel has a lower
ability to gather light than a larger pixel. Therefore, the image
quality is more dependent on getting the right levels of light into
a megapixel/HDTV camera. P-Iris helps optimize the performance of
the lens and image sensor to automatically adjust the iris opening
for optimal image quality.

What is a Megapixel, and Why is it Important?
A megapixel equates to 1 million pixels! With that said,
this incredible camera brings you over 1 million pixels
- all working together to bring you the larger, clearer, and
crisper image you want for your surveillance needs!
Below is an image comparing the quality produced with a
megapixel camera versus the smaller poorer quality corner image
of a basic analog camera. As you can see, the resolution of some
lesser cameras leave much to be desired, while the quality image
this model is capable of conveying is excellent.

Built-in SD-Card Storage
Local storage using optional SD-Cards allows you to
record on the unit itself
instead of having to have a recording device elsewhere. This is
ideal for ensuring continued recording in the event of network
problems,
or in mobile installations where there is no permanent LAN. A
32GB SD card can store up to two days worth of continuous video
even at the very highest quality and resolution (and much longer
periods at lower settings). You can retrieve the recorded video
on the SD card by FTP across the network (or Internet) or
transfer the SD card into a reader on your PC.

Remote Access from Smart Phones
This cameras can provide live streaming to smartphones or other
Internet connected mobile devices over 3G networks. This is
compatible with leading phones including
Apple iPhones™ and iPads™, Symbian™ based devices (e.g. Nokia) and
Android™ based phones.
Viewing is also possible on these devices using local WiFi. In
conjunction with email alerts and motion detection, this enables you
to provide rapid response to view live video after you have been
alerted.
Why is H.264 Important?
H.264 is an ITU standard for compressing video based on MPEG-4
that is popular, especially for high-definition video such as
Blu-ray. Taking advantage of today's high-speed chips, H.264
delivers MPEG-4 quality with a frame size up to four times
greater! It can also provide MPEG-2 quality at a reduced data
rate, requiring as little as one third the original bandwidth.

Simply put, H.264 delivers higher quality video in a
significantly smaller about of time and space!

WDR Explained
The wide dynamic range (WDR)
function of a Vivotek is intended to provide clear images even
under back light circumstances where intensity of illumination
can vary excessively, namely when there are both very bright and
very dark areas simultaneously in the field of view of the
camera. WDR enables the capture and display of both bright and
dark areas in the same frame, in a way that there are details in
both areas, i.e. bright areas are not saturated, and dark areas
are not too dark.
What is Auto Electronic Shutter?
AES - (Automatic Electronic Shutter) allows the shutter speed to
change with response to the amount of perceived light to keep
the signal output at the best possible level. AES allows an iris
to adapt automatically to different lighting conditions. When
the shutter speed increases, the light passing through the lens
is decreased and the cameras sensitivity is reduced. When the
shutter speed is decreased, a larger amount of light enters the
iris. For fast moving objects the shutter speed can also be
increased to provide a freeze effect in order to provide higher
resolution images.
What is Auto Tracking White Balance?
White Balance allows the camera to adjust the tone according to
the color temperature of the light source illuminating the
subject. It allows the operator to see objects as they appear
during daylight. Simply put, AWB is another image amplification
feature designed to bring out the best qualities of the images
provided by your camera.
What is Automatic Gain Control?
In low-light conditions, some security cameras use Automatic
Gain Control (AGC) to artificially improve their “dynamic range”
and produce usable images. AGC is basically a form of
amplification where the camera will automatically boost the
image received so that objects can be seen more clearly. In
normal light conditions the camera will display a normal
picture. However, when the light quality drops below a certain
level the camera will begin to boost the signal to compensate
for the lack of light. The advantage of this technique is that
your camera will produce images in much lower light conditions
than standard.

Vivotek's Green Commitment
VIVOTEK is a Taiwanese company which has a leading
position in the IP video surveillance market. It is listed in the Taiwan
Stock Exchange and its business development has allowed it to open an
office in California. VIVOTEK offers wide-range IP camera products at
competitive prices.
The peculiar thing about their products is that they
embody functions that other manufacturers do not include in their IP
cameras of the same price range as VIVOTEK's and that is what makes
VIVOTEK a popular manufacturer of budget IP surveillance products.
